Most of the cages you see offered through pet stores marketed for chinchillas are starter cages, which are not appropriate for a full grown chinchilla. The minimum cage size for a single chinchilla is 2x2x2. HOWEVER, that would be considered a temporary, or grow out cage. As chinchillas are herd animals and quite active, considerations should be made to accommodate at least a pair. Their cage should be a fortress of safety and enrichment. So bigger is always better!

Plastic ledges pose a choking or impaction hazard. Wire ramps, shelves and floor liners are a fracture risk and can also cause damage to their feet. For this reason we build and offer our signature wooden ledges with safety backboards. Wooden ledges provide the necessary roughage to toughen foot pads, absorb moisture and offer solid, no slip footing for your acrobatic pet.

We offer previously owned, Whimsy approved cages with our adoptable chinchillas. Each is spaciously sized, gently used but outfitted with all new ledges. Here are some examples of cages we have decorated and sold in the past. Prices range from $150—$350. All come fully decorated similar to the ones show below.
